Will Gaming NFTs drive the next bull-run?
Look at Yuga Labs and the other top projects in the space for a clue…
NFTs are digital containers.
They can store absolutely any sort of data or variables. Since they can point to storage off-chain, they are essentially limitless in size.
This past bull-run NFTs grew through art and specifically PFPs, a lot of which were 10k collections.
Art has historically been the first testing ground for all new technologies. But its just one of the use-cases for NFTs and my bet is it won’t be the largest.
NFTs are as versatile as it gets. They can be:
- Pixelated 2D punk artwork
- Financial instruments (Uniswap v3 uses them to store your liquidity positions)
- Or even the rights to $27m real-world house.
This is a powerful tool and its range of applications are just getting started.
So why gaming?
Unlike real-world property that have all sorts of restrictions from centuries of legal frameworks being built, digital items do not carry that historic burden!
The laws surrounding digital property such as in-game items are far less limiting, this means there’s a huge space for exploration and growth!
Yuga Labs are the largest player in the NFT space already.
Their announcement that have a CGO (chief games officer) feels so indicative of how at least they believe games are a big part of the NFT future.
What could the future look like?
Just imagine wearing a BAYC outfit that you own in a game like Fortnite.
People who know the price tag of that outfit will give you so much kudos.
Add a bunch of other NFTs like a gun you earned in Overwatch and a Tiffany’s crypto-punk necklace and your flex will be unreal.
Jumping between game worlds dressed as your specific avatar with in-game items shared between games is the first step in creating the so-called ‘Metaverse’ that companies are now piling millions of $ into.
